I am grateful to a follower on Twitter who points out that if Liz Truss had cut cancer care to fund her tax cuts for the rich, then trickle down economics means so much money would have flown in she could have opened cancer care hospitals by the dozen.
Or at least she obviously thinks that she could.
Several other people have pointed out that Ms. Truss is obviously a classic example of the Dunning-Kruger effect. In which people with limited competence in a particular area, like politics, overestimate their ability.
But I find that a bit unlikely.
Anyone with any self knowledge or common sense must know that if they are considering consigning millions of people to an expensive and painful death in order to let billionaires have another helicopter that they have lost the plot. This is unbelievable commitment to a dodgy theory that goes far beyond incompetence.
Leaving aside the character of anyone who would even consider such a policy suggestion, this is surely the nail in the coffin for trickle down economics. Are we seriously going to have politicians in power who believe this stuff so much they are willing to drive it through at any cost? Who think that throwing cancer patients under the bus is somehow a price worth paying?
This is the stuff of Stalinist nightmares. What is the difference between “There is not enough food, therefore the farmers must be hoarding it, therefore we must kill the farmers” and “Millionaires need tax cuts, to fund it we need to slash the state, so we must kill cancer patients”?
We are lucky she only lasted 49 days, what could she have done with 50?
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.

Is she not merely a willing mouthpiece for the malign self-interest of darker forces, such as those operating from Mordor (aka Tufton Street)?
The declining competence of tory PMs, from Cameron to bojo to Truss (May by contrast seemed moderately human, if out of her depth) was matched by a corresponding increase in arrogant self-belief which was truly gobsmacking. They need to heed O Cromwell “I beseech you, in the bowels of Christ, think it possible you may be mistaken.” (some folk don’t do mistakes, obvs)
