So Nigel is back and now we get to find out how much like Trump’s America the UK can become.
Senior members of the Tory party are already calling for an alliance with Reform “we have so much in common”, and the Prime Minister is seriously considering getting "even tougher” on the ECHR. The Tories have painted themselves into a corner, again and their knee jerk reaction is to move further and further into the corner.
They are now trying to out reform Reform, an area in which there is virtually no room for manoeuvre, and we have to hope a very limited number of votes. Rishi Sunak, being I think we can safely say a political idiot, has called an election when he has shifted ever rightwards and is still being portrayed by the Far Right as a socialist, is reacting by moving further right and is therefore alienating the middle ground, to a remarkable degree.
The Tories cannot win this way but that is not the real problem. If they merge or cooperate with Reform then we are well on our way to Fascism. These people glory in breaking the law, stirring up the mob, appealing to racists and bigots, they want to destroy the Blob, slash all government spending, close our borders, undermine the economy and the poorest people in the country who will be hit the hardest love them.
The Tories are willing to let Liz Truss stand again but she will look like Michael Heseltine by the end of this affair.
If there are any One Nation Tories left I suggest they should wait for nominations to close and then defect, at least they will leave with their heads held high.
But what happens if a merger of the Tories and Reform ever happens? It will get rabid support from the red tops but will the rest of the Tory press kowtow and tell us they are just real Tories, purged of the traitors?
The BBC will have to give them equal airtime, they will be rich and presentable and try not to scare the horses too much, while whipping up their core support with ever more outrageous, jingoistic, undemocratic filth.
Will a hardcore of 20% of the electorate which is just about managing to hold its nose and vote for the Tories, love this or hate it? Are they like Trump’s Republican party?
Brexit was supposed to end all this, but it was the worst appeasement ever. Once again the Tories have betrayed their own country for party advantage and it has destroyed them.
But they may well be replaced by something far worse.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.

Enjoy your jottings and am absolutely on board but please, please, please can we stop using Farage`s first name alone. I know you only did it once here but it has an insidious effect with Johnson, contributing to his public persona as a harmless, jolly chap, potentially your `pal`, and is in danger of doing the same with Farage.
The answer to that question, is whether the next Labour government can communicate with the public with sufficient honesty. They have a mountain to climb and imo have done the right thing in lowering expectations.
The far right will try to stoke disillusion so it can ride a backlash. Labour must have some faith in the maturity of the voters. TINA.
