You cannot get an economics GCSE if you don’t understand the laws of supply and demand. It is that basic. Yet this government seems to not understand it at all.
Nurses and doctors are leaving the country to work abroad, after years of training in the UK, because the pay is higher and the conditions far better. House prices are at ridiculous levels because the government does not build enough of them.
The solution to both these problems could be worked out by a 15 year old school child, but for the cabinet of the UK they are a mystery beyond comprehension.
Surely the answer is to hold down nurses’ pay and ignore striking doctors, plainly we need to stop building homes and give NIMBYs a veto on any new construction.
The cabinet is made up of some very successful business people, they must know better than this? One can only assume that they do and have alternative motives.
Running down the NHS is one thing, but blaming striking doctors is a good way of trying to escape the consequences. Older voters support the Tories and also have huge amounts of housing wealth, wealth that is threatened by new house building.
Either the government is ruining the country for political advantage or they don’t understand basic economics. I can’t see a third way of explaining this mess.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
