Yesterday the feed of Daily Telegraph headlines that appears on my phone led with “Starmer releases prisoners early”. Frankly I didn’t know he was also a prion officer, the Telegraph obviously doesn’t know that 14 years of Tory rule and mismanagement is why the prisons are so dangerously full and that they released prisoners early too.
Today I wake to “Economy flatlines under Starmer”, which is amazing as I am pretty sure when it grew it was “Starmer inherits booming economy”.
The problem is not so much the headlines but the fact that the attack dogs of the right refuse to admit that they have lost, made a complete mess of the country and that Labour have a huge majority. They are not going to stop, ever. The two faced coverage, the shameless hypocrisy and the bias will only get worse because the media is now the plaything of the multi billionaires.
Musk in America and now in the UK Sir Paul Marshall. Although I frankly don’t care for The Spectator at all, the news that it has been bought by the same billionaire who owns GB News should really worry us. As should the fact that he is hoping to pick up the Telegraph too.
Both are now likely to be in the hands of a man whose “news channel” is the Fox News of the UK. A home for bigots, frauds, conspiracy theorists, loons, racists and probably one or two Nazis.
What right wing billionaires on both sides of the pond have realised is that by pumping out their version of events non stop, they can alter the mood music, the zeitgeist and the tone of debate. The centre ground once held by major media outlets shifts as they respond to the far right, as if they are just slightly right of centre.
So, small wonder that Sir Keir Starmer is now being portrayed as a commie in hock to the unions, rioters as heroes and Reform as the voice of the people.
The news is supposed to be regulated, just like the water industry is, yet both get to pump out huge amounts of shit and nothing is done.
I know which failure of regulation I am more worried about.

This cannot be stressed enough.
