My Twitter/X feed is always full of people having a go at Nigel Farage and Reform. They are right but they are wasting their time.
They go on and on about how, he and the other leaders aren’t men of the people, they went to private school, they are millionaires, they are nasty populists who pander to the racists who want to drown babies, they are liars, Russia lovers and so on and so on.
But, as I say they are wasting their time, just like Trump’s supporters the people who vote for Reform don’t care, or think he is the victim of the liberal elite. They would vote for Farage if he was caught smuggling in underage rent boys for his own chain of brothels.
The attempt to question his personality, beliefs and background is a battle that has already been lost and cannot be re-fought. The way to win against Farage is to prove that his policies are wrong.
The poor white supporters who love him, think they are poor and ignored and stuck with few chance or opportunities because of immigration and have always thought that. They think that Nigel Farage is just the voice of honesty and reason, when in fact he is taking them for fools.
It was Thatcherism that destroyed communities, it was the Tories who made City spivs millionaires, it was the right that abandoned state schools, abandoned the poor, abandoned whole areas of the country, destroyed the welfare state and ran down the NHS.
Then the right wing press told the victims it was the Trade Unions which meant there had to be radical reform, then blamed the miners, then they said capitalism red in tooth and claw was the only game in town and then they blamed the world wide credit crunch for even more pain, and then they blamed immigration.
But the simple fact is 40 years of Thatcherism made the South East and London very wealthy, at the expense of places like Clacton and Scunthorpe and all the rest.
Millions of people who suffered are looking for scapegoats and Farage is happy to oblige. Remove the need for scapegoats and he dies.
You can complain about his personality and hypocrisy all you want, and you would be right but he is a symptom not the cause.
Cure the cause and the symptoms disappear.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.

One part of the problem is, though, that it’s easy and quick to blame something/someone, like immigration, but fixing the cause takes time, and people more and more want things instantly. It’s going to be difficult to build lots of houses without immigrant workers, etc. And people like Farage are certainly not helping
Spending time on twitter/x is by definition a waste of time
