You broke my heart, Alfredo
One thing that has always puzzled me about the Brexiteers is that there seems to be a conflict between what they think about the EU and how they expect the EU to treat them.
The EU is, they claim, an attempt by Germany to conquer Europe by economics after two failed world wars, or an attempt to create a European superstate, or a giant inefficient economy surrounded by huge tariff barriers or even a Jewish conspiracy for world domination. you can take your pick.
But if all or any of this is true why do they think that the EU will treat the UK as an equal? Why do they think the UK has them over a barrel? Why do they think that we aren’t now a competitor and outside the family?
Lord Frost will lay out his new plans for the Northern Ireland Protocol today, more can kicking seems likely. As the cabinet sniggers and dares the EU to do something about it, the UK will break its word.
All very clever but just think, is this the smart way to treat a vast, ruthless, multi-national conspiracy that has the whole of Europe in its grasp?
