Writing history....
When the history of Brexit is finally written by independent historians with full access to the facts and the papers, it will be interesting to see how the paranoiac fantasies of the Brexiteers damaged the result that the UK achieved.
All that stuff about a remainer conspiracy, the threat of a second referendum and how the liberal elite of the Civil Service was not to be trusted to create a deal, lead to many if not all of the problems that the UK is now suffering. Facts and logic were not used, only the theories and false facts of the most extreme Brexit supporters,
Into this mess stepped a group of people willing to do anything to get the deal done, which is why when you read the EU negotiators accounts they were amazed at what the UK did not even ask for, turned down when it was offered and thought would be painless. It also explains why British industry tried to lobby for what they wanted and were told what they were going to get.
The Northern Ireland mess is now the most obvious result but there are many others, with the UK government now just waiting for the EU to stop implementing the deal it agreed to in order to clear up the mess it made. Another paranoid fantasy that isn’t going to happen.
