Worse than expected
Sir John Grieve on the Today programme a few moment ago, hammered home what should be the final nail in the coffin of Liz Truss.
The gap in the government’s finances is not £47b, and it never was. That is just the unfunded tax giveaways that the hard core libertarians wept tears of joy over.
This is also not a matter of having to row back further to reassure the markets. No, the gap is at least £75 billion and it always was.
What reckless stupidity it takes to bet the house when you are mortgaged up to the hilt, it is almost impossible to imagine.
To then hear Damian Green come on the programme and just suggest we press the reset button and start again, forget the last 2 weeks and let Truss continue; was the icing on the cake.
This is where Brexit leads you, the bank account is empty, the Tory party driven by loons, cakeism is exposed not as a joke but as the fraud it always was.
The nation has been driven into a cul de sac by people incapable of reversing, making a three point turn or, and this is the terrifying bit, even seeing that they are at a dead end.
Reseting the last two weeks will make no difference at all and they know it. Now they are just hanging on for fear of the electorate.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
