Why don't ministers care?
Small airlines in the UK are suffering. The FT is reporting that ones which concentrate on moving goods, components and people at short notice around Europe have been hit by delays and red tape that their EU competitors don’t have.
The Government is trying to make deals with the EU and individual countries but it is a mess. It is hardly surprising that British pilots think that their licences are not worth what they were, they aren’t if they can not do what French, Swedish or Maltese pilots can do.
It is just another piece of grit in the machinery of the UK economy and it isn’t producing any pearls. During the Brexit negotiations the Government did not just stop listening to what industries needed and wanted; it stopped inviting them to talks if they were too lippy.
It is hard to conclude anything but that ministers having decided on a hard Brexit decided not to even bother managing the pain. But I am still at a loss as to why they didn’t even try, even those stupid enough to believe in creative destruction can’t possibly think all damage is good, can they?
