Who to trust?
The news that the government is planning to seriously weaken environmental protections on house building, as a Brexit benefit, comes on the same day that the US giant 3M has agreed to pay $10billion because it supplied ear plugs that didn’t work to America’s armed forces, damaging the hearing of thousands of service men and women.
That is on top of the $10 billion it has agreed to pay for pumping appalling chemicals into rivers in the US.
With almost every river in the UK now polluted by farmers, firms and now the water companies paid to keep them clean, it is obvious that a “Brexit freedom” should be used to allow more pollution. Obvious to the government that is.
After all we can trust companies to do the right thing, the water companies to monitor the water quality, we can guarantee that no harm will come to anyone, that the companies won’t fix the data, take advantage of the loser regs, lie about the consequences, blame some one else and then go bankrupt before any possible pay out is due.
Of course we can.
I can only assume that a deeply cynical government is using this as an attempt to paint environmentalists, clean water campaigners and greens as holding back the economy and the housing market, as part of a remainer plot.
I think there are actually more votes in protecting the environment these days, and it just happens to be the right thing to do.
But I am sure we can trust this government. aren’t you?
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
