Lord Frost wrote an interesting article in the Brexit house magazine The Sunday Telegraph yesterday. Full of the usual stuff about sovereignty, taking back control, EU intransigence, and how breaking the NIP is lawful, there was however one interesting line. Lord Frost says he is the “minister for the benefits of Brexit”.
It made me think, who is the minister for the costs of Brexit? Certainly Michael Gove like Macavity, is not there. The Chancellor hardly mentioned it in the budget, the Foreign Office doesn’t seem to cover Europe much anymore, the Dept for Business is quiet on the issue and the Home Office silent. The PM is of course tackling the biggest national issue of the day, how to decorate his flat with someone else’s money.
Who then is left holding the baby? Or perhaps we should ask; who is the former civil servant in a room full of ambitious, calculating, ruthless and buck passing professional career politicians? Who boasts of having negotiated the deal? Who declares he is responsible for the benefits? Who owns Brexit?

If your partner was giving you ear ache about the decor wouldnt it be high up you issues list if only to get less ear ache? 🤔
Good to see you are remembering your cost benefit analysis! You make a good point on this that they should be assessed together. I know you view it from a remoaners point of view and I from a Brexiteers but I still think it is banana skin in waiting unless the work is done and tracked against plan. CBA is fundamental to a change of this magnitude to track and manage it. I'd be delighted if someone was tracking and mapping against a cunning plan Baldrick but I fear you may be right on the lack of one.
Spot on!
