The scale of the cock up by the EC when it threatened to close the border between Ireland and NI is now clear. The British government’s reaction has been to try to squeeze as much as possible from the mess, in effect telling the EU it wants to remove any barriers in the Irish Sea. As the Prime minister told the Common’s yesterday “We do think it’s very important the protocol does not place unnecessary barriers — or barriers of any kind — down the Irish Sea,”.
This is pure fantasy and a dangerous one at that. The NI Protocol puts a border down the Irish Sea, the PM is lying if he says there are no barriers, he should know it is his baby. If he wants to see some more barriers all he has to do is tear up the Protocol and with it the whole deal with the EU and watch what happens.
This is a very dangerous game, the history of Brexit tells us that the ultras really believe No Deal is manageable, the Government is giving them new hope and more ammunition. While the European Parliament has yet to approve the deal the UK is now trying to re-negotiate, not a clever move.
It is a fact of life that it comes naturally to politicians to kick a man when he is down. But as the scorpion and the frog remind us doing what comes naturally can be suicidally stupid. It is even worse, when in this case, the scorpion is Northern Ireland and the frog the UK.

Jonty why wouldn't you go back to the table to revisit an agreement that is seriously flawed and the bully that forced it on you has messed up badly? Yesterday in Parliament Ian Paisley Jnr said that the NI Protocol "didn't cut the mustard." To fail to revisit the deal after that could be regarded as culpable neglect, in failing to try to protect the Good Friday Agreement. Yes the EU scorpion may sting you but like the frog / turtle what choice have you got?
Somebody else accused the Prime Minister of not telling the truth yesterday in a rage and later had to admit they were wrong. Now who was that the name escapes me :)
