Who else could do that?
Germany has opened its first gas terminal for the import of liquified gas from America and elsewhere. It is planning five, which will be able to replace the gas imported from Russia.
This is a massive undertaking, costing billions and reversing decades of energy policy.
Russia will, as a result, lose one of its biggest markets permanently.
Necessity is the mother of invention but even so this is a remarkable achievement, in less than a year Germany has completely reversed its energy policy and re-engineered the whole energy system in order to make it work.
In the UK they would still be considering options in a sub committee somewhere, arguing about the money and begging private companies to invest billions for what are essentially political and national defence reasons.
You really cannot see the British state, these days, being capable of achieving this kind of thing. It has just been hollowed out too much.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
