Who benefits?
The problem with climate change is that stopping it involves costs and pain now for the benefit of future generations. our political systems and politicians are not designed to deal with such problems, which is why they are proving so bad at addressing the world’s biggest crisis.
The news that Tory MPs are fighting to reverse the decision on replacing gas boilers because it will push up bills, is a great example. Some are climate denying fools, many just know higher bills are unpopular. No 10 is so worried it is considering watering down already inadequate policies to appease its back benchers.
It is why I think there is no chance of stopping climate change. All political systems are built around staying in power, not doing what is best for future generations.
