Where's the bean?
Like some cheap street con artist with three cups and a bean the Chancellor of the Exchequer is trying to take our eyes off what he is really doing.
The freezing of income tax bands is a massive £40 billion tax rise for ordinary working people, meanwhile he is seriously contemplating cutting inheritance tax which is paid by 4% of the population and is just, fair and hits almost exclusively the wealthy and their untaxed property assets. Meanwhile benefits will be slashed again.
Just like last time when he gave millionaires the unlimited ability to stuff their pensions and sold it as “targeted at the NHS”, this cut will be sold as an end to double taxation or ending some gross unfairness in the system.
But it is just tax cuts for the rich, just like Liz Truss but with better PR and better sleight of hand.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
