I didn’t blog yesterday as I was travelling on what we laughingly call a “motorway system” in the UK. But what a cornucopia of cock ups have fallen into my lap as a result.
For a start those checks on EU food and agricultural exports to the UK, which were due to start being checked at the end of the month, now will not be happening. Apparently the system is not ready and might cause huge queues, who knew.? This will be the 6th delay, and rather embarrassingly the government was hoping to keep it quiet by not telling the media. Oops our bad!
So 8 years after voting to leave and 4 years after the EU introduced tests on the UK’s exports, we are still not ready.
Then it seems the new biometric checks on UK passport holders entering the EU will not be ready either. We were planning and hoping to stop massive delays at the border by doing it all online, with an app. There is apparently no hope of that being ready by the end of the year, so physical checks at the border it is.
Seriously these are not “Events dear boy”, those annoyingly unpredictable troubles that every government trips over. These have been flagged for years, they just need money, organisation, planning, attention to detail and a well run government.
It is almost as if the government was not prepared for Brexit, is trying to undermine its obvious benefits, does not want to secure our borders, be a sovereign independent country, or even prevent diseases entering our food chain.
This is like a child closing their eyes because they think it means people cannot see them.
A total detachment from reality and responsibility, a strange idea that all of this is not really happening, is nothing to do with the government, will go away if they delay long enough.
Business is pulling its hair out, tourists have no idea what is coming down the road, the government is lying about this and pretty much everything else to do with Brexit.
It quite clearly cannot cope with reality, the reality that it campaigned and fought for, the reality it tells us is a triumph, the envy of the world.
Open your eyes guys, this is your brave new world, you made it, you own it.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.

U.K. can’t face reality. No political party has the strength to speak the truth. We have to rely on the likes of Lord Heseltine to tell it like it is. I only hope that Starmer and Lammy come out fighting when they get their landslide.
Another classic! What a shame that Panorama & Newsnight seem unable to explain these problems to the public, perhaps a drama production on the lines of ‘Black Mirror’ would be a better vehicle?
