What, me guv?
I imagine you have to twist Andrew Bailey’s words quite a bit to really find that he said that early retirement is causing higher inflation. The end of free movement is a far more important factor in worker shortages but strangely the Daily Telegraph doesn’t mention these things.
But it is also true that inflation for poorer people is far higher than for others, basics they have to buy are shooting up in price, again Brexit doesn’t help.
And so the solution is obvious, we must clamp down on begging.
Yes, stopping begging will obviously bring down inflation and get people into work, by increasing skills and creating an attractive workplace that older workers will want to return to.
At least the cones hotline wasn’t a nasty, brutish attempt to blame the desperate and poor for all that is wrong. It was just the feeble attempt of a failing government that was bereft of ideas.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
