What does Boris Johnson think his long term plan looks like? If history is a guide there really is no way back to No. 10 but then the Tory party is desperate and so nasty that it will do anything to stay in power.
So let’s just assume that the former PM will, by the skin of his teeth, be found to have not lied directly to the House of Commons. That his finances and private life do not reveal even more scandal and that Rishi Sunak can be brought down by the ERG.
Does Johnson run for the leadership again and what happens if he wins?
Well, for a start, he must be enjoying earning a lot of money, god knows he needs it, but the PM’s job is badly paid by his standards and he has just bought a £4 million property.
Then, would his election help the polls? The Boris brand looked pretty cheap and tawdry when his own party kicked him out, there is a danger that he comes back and fails miserably. The Tory party is humiliated in the election as people vote tactically for anyone who can get rid of a Conservative MP and they are reduced to a small rump, he loses his seat and takes the blame for destroying the party’s chances of ever being in power again.
Also the country is in a total mess and needs massive, painful reform. The Johnson we know is not the master of detail, hard work, serious thinking or difficult decisions.
Would even an ego as large as Boris Johnson’s drive him to re-enter fray and be lumbered with the complete mess he has made of the country?
Might it not be better to sit back, earn millions, bonk debs and have some fun sniping from the sidelines.
It is after all how he has spent most of his life.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
“Bojo - The Return”. Sounds like a gothic horror movie. God help us
