Apparently the Reform party is split between those who think that knuckle dragging, Swastika tattooed arsonists are “their people” and those who think they have “gone a bit too far.” Even Robert Jenrick is now flirting with the mob, for shame.
But what they are probably united about is that “their people” just “want their country back”. Which is a phrase that hides a heck of a lot. What does it really mean?
When did they lose their country, what does it look like, what do they really want? If you ask it like that what they want is clear. A white country, with no immigration, with the deportation of black and Asian people, with only WASPS on TV and no equality rules, no wokery.
But it is more than that, what they also want is a return to the time when they could earn a decent wage, with or without an education, when there was full employment, when they were protected by Trade Unions and the NHS worked., when the utilities worked and were run for their benefit, when there was a better chance of climbing the ladder out of family poverty.
The sad irony is that all those things were destroyed by the Right, by their heroine Margaret Thatcher, and yet the people who want their country back support ever more right wing parties. Because they are convinced that the real reason for their misery is that other people, immigrants, the leftie intellectuals, the woke, have stolen their country.
This is what MAGA is all about as well, facist billionaires persuading the poor and left behind that the problem is not facist billionaires but immigrants.
By doing that they can persuade the poor that trickle down economics works and they deserve even lower taxes.
What worries me is what happens when yet again it turns out to be impossible to “get your country back”, when the poor far right are betrayed again, when immigration has to continue, when the left behind are left further and further behind and benefits are cut again.
The country they should want back is one with educational opportunity for all, generous benefits, social mobility, better infrastructure, better health, regional development and higher pay.
Exactly what is not on offer from their leaders.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
You are really so ill informed. I would try and explain to you why but I would be wasting my time. It is the problem with you far left people all you can do is refer to the right in abusive terms as an alternative to engaging with the arguments. It is frustrating but there is nothing to be done. As an aside this 'far right' person is probably much better educated that you.
