What could have been...
Global Britain has with the freedom that leaving the EU provided managed to do less, more slowly. Sanctions are a joke, oligarchs are selling up and moving their money from London. In France and Germany they are seizing their super yachts.
But there is hope, Liz Truss has been invited to attend an EU foreign affairs summit, along with Canada, Ukraine and America.
The UK could have been leading this summit, pushing for more sanctions, more aid, better help for refugees. But now it has to wait for an invite so that it can coordinate its policies with the EU, perhaps.
By coordinate I mean, of course, catch up.
The EU’s reaction to the invasion of the Ukraine has been impressive showing what it can do and should have been doing much more of all along. It shows that it can become a political as well as an economic power of the first order.
It is cooperating, funding, supporting and leading.
Meanwhile the PM of the UK, is boasting of being ahead of the world and leading the way. Utter tosh of course but what do you expect?
He could have been leading Europe by now, if he had picked that other article.
He could have been somebody.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
