It isn’t how many times you are knocked down it is how many times you get up. That is a great phrase if you are a boxer, not so much for a political party.
When Winston Churchill lost the 1945 election, he announced that the Great British public had heard quite enough from him for a while and went on a well deserved break. Then he re-worked his policies, stole Labour’s clothes and got back into power.
This current party know none of his integrity, intelligence or even common sense. After the largest electoral defeat in their history they are not coping well, they are in denial. Apparently their policies are still perfect it is just that they did not present them well enough, or they were betrayed by the enemy within.
And yet all around us we can see the results of 14 years of pure incompetence. One of my local hospitals is a danger to its patients because it is falling down, schools are no better and prisons worse, our defence is a joke, police under staffed, courts closed, there was no money for the tainted blood scandal or the Post Office one, the spring budget figures were fixed and bent.
The state was riding to ruin because the Tory party believed that cutting spending could free up money for tax cuts and therefore more money for the government. Liz Truss was just the stupidest manifestation of this lie, but they all still believe it.
But all they did was cut capital spending to partially fund current spending and slash the ability of the state to function. Cakeism was poison.
The emergence of the underclass that is now flooding to Reform is the result of just these policies. Now the Tory party is spiralling ever further out of control and power.
Jenrick is ranting in the wilderness presumably because he knows Kemi won’t last and he can then take over the sinking ship. Kemi is claiming that lunch is for wimps, while she devours steak every day at her desk, such talk rarely impresses voters.
The great and the good were evicted years ago by Boris Johnson and the financiers are now deserting too.
Meanwhile Labour has 4 years to try to restore the NHS, our defence, the courts, the schools and everything else, and very little praise will they get for it. But then the Tory party is imploding, they may not need to do much to survive.

Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
4 years will scratch the surface of renewal. Will it be enough to stop the Reform rollercoaster or will that implode before it even gets to the election? One thing seems pretty certain Tory party is not coming back anytime soon.
"the underclass that is now flooding to Reform" You arrogant bast**d. The people who I know who are flooding to Reform and not what is defined as your "underclass". It is you that is out of touch and part of the problem. The elephant in the room is not immigration it is radical Islam which is a danger to our liberal way of life. The liberal laws which allow both you and I the (decreasing) freedom to express our views. I have done the reading. Read whay ex-muslims (oftern in hiding) tell us. This is not prejudice this is informed comment. All people should do the reading including you. Then, and only then, tell me that I am wrong. Reform is the only party who just may address this issue and preserve a liberal society in which you can speak out and insult good hardworking, thoughtful. intellegent British patriots of diverse backgrounds.
