First it was the OBR, (which the Tories hate anyway because it won’t let them wreck the country with unfunded trickle down economics), which stated that it had not been given all the information it needed by the last government.
Then the governor of the Bank of England shoots another Tory horse. As Rishi Sunak and Jeremy Hunt claim that pay rises for nurses will stoke inflation, he says, it won’t. Since almost the sole rationale for the Tories claiming to have brought inflation down all on their lonesome, was that they had constrained public sector wages, this one must have hurt.
One might think that Andrew Bailey was getting his revenge in for all the Tory lies about inflation and their constant attacks on the Bank of England; but the simpler explanation is that the Tories were lying and he was asked to tell the truth.
All of this will add to the Conservatives’ paranoia about the Blob of woke liberal Civil Servants who frustrated them at every turn, which is good really. Because it is total rubbish and it will lead them further and further into the abyss. Where they campaign to destroy the OBR, rather than making sure it has the facts it needs, where they campaign to destroy the independence of the Civil Service, where they campaign for Trussenomics again, and trickle down economics. Then they will start screaming about immigration again, about how state pensions are unaffordable and the NHS needs replacing and they will be in the political wilderness for years.
They will still be paranoid but everyone will hate them, and frankly it is all that they deserve. There is almost certainly going to be a drip drip of stories about their personal demands on civil servants, of their spending on social media and travel, of their waste, their bullying and so on.
Boris Johnson and Brexit broke the old Tory party and the new one is full of nasty people who have been acting like entitled shits for years. This is just the facts and the truth emerging, and they are not going to like it.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.

I nearly drove off the road yesterday when I heard a man from the IFS state that wage rises are the result of inflation, not the orthodoxy that wage slaves drive inflation through wage demands. Where have these people been for the past decade or three. Sounds like A-level Economics was right
Just cos they’re paranoid doesn’t mean some of us aren’t out to get them. Roll on the wilderness years, after the last 14 I shall enjoy every single moment of them
