Water, water everywhere......
I see that Thames Water is running expensive adverts on TV about how their hard working staff are available 24/7 to fix leaks, even when we unappreciative slobs are watching the world cup or having Christmas dinner.
Strangely though Thames Water still has a terrible record for losing water, water it has already collected, cleaned, purified, stored and pumped at huge expense.
The environmental waste and damage alone is sickening.
Perhaps they might like to spend enough to replace the Victorian pipes they know need replacing, or perhaps their regulator should just make them do that.
But no, they have enough to pay out hundreds of millions in profits, pay executives small fortunes for running a monopoly and to commission patronising adverts.
But not enough to pump clean water to homes and safely process the waste.
Which, you might think, would be the kind of mission statement it would not be necessary to pay an ad agency a small fortune to come up with and the kind of ambition the industry’s regulator might think the bare minimum necessary.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
