I am not a big fan of the SNP but at least their freedom of information request has led to the publication of the OBR advice to the then Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng, just before his budget last year. You know the one that shredded the markets, cost tens of billions and destroyed faith in British economic management. The one that was praised to the skies by the right wing commentariat, just before the sky fell in.
It seems the OBR warned the Chancellor of a year long recession and disastrous public borrowing figures, just before he borrowed even more to throw at millionaires.
Part of the ensuing tragedy was caused by the fact that the Chancellor refused to publish the advice from the OBR, casting serious doubt on his figures; what could the government have to hide?
Well it seems quite a lot.
Although maybe we should be grateful they didn’t publish the OBR report, the markets would have tanked even further.
Where is the coverage of the scandal and what is the punishment?
There is almost no coverage and there is now a prosperous career of public speaking ahead for the people who created this mess, and remember that Liz Truss’s public speaking would disgrace a primary school debating society. But she will still make a fortune telling idiots about “Pork markets” and how her noble experiment to put a rocket under the British economy was sabotaged.
Trying a mad, incompetent, ideologically-driven economic experiment when the country has cash to spare is one thing, doing it when it is on its uppers and ignoring the warnings is another.
But don’t worry it is in the past, nothing to see her, stop crying over spilt milk, look to the future.
Except for one thing, this proves that politics is now basically power without responsibility. Do what you want, you will never be punished, held to account or suffer personally.
Just walk away whistling.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.

Sadly all so true. Even May, who at least seemed upset when she walked, has been trousering thousands in speeches ever since. But why on earth would anyone pay to listen to people who are literally losers?
