Virgin on the ridiculous......
A friendly former colleague reminds me that the continuing Rwandan farce is such a terrible waste of time and effort because it is based on a totally false premise.
If tens of thousands of people are so desperate that they are willing to risk not only their lives, but those of their family to cross the channel in pathetically inadequate small boats in freezing temperatures and dangerous weather, why does the Tory party think that sending 100 of them to Rwanda will act as a deterrent?
But this ridiculous policy has somehow become a shibboleth for the Tory party.
Members are divided viserally between those who think this is such an important policy that it is necessary to leave the ECHR and tear up several international treaties to see it through, or whether you can just break them here and there, for a short time, perhaps, maybe. All the while ignoring the fact that the policy is doomed to fail whatever it does, because it has no connection with the problem it is supposed to solve.
This is like watching a school room full of teenagers fighting to the death over whether they will get better ‘A’ levels results if they partially or totally lose their virginity.
Even worse they don’t realise the grown ups are watching and listening to everything they say and suddenly realising their offspring are immoral, cretinous idiots.
At least foreigners can have a good laugh at our expense, but for the rest of us stuck here, this is beyond a joke.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
