Oh what a tangled web the Government’s policy on asylum seekers is. It has been stopped by the UK’s courts, quite rightly, because it is illegal.
There is now a civil war in the Tory party between those who want to use this as a reason to leave the ECHR (which has not even judged on this disgusting law) and those who want to force it through by just suspending UK human rights law; as if the two are not directly linked.
Their rallying call is the “sovereignty of parliament” which means the Commons can pass any law the majority want and no one can do anything about it, ever, at all. This is the rationale for Brexit, for many of these MPs.
Do they not realise what that really means?
When this law fails as it will, the right will demand more. UKIP is already proposing a floating barrier down the Channel (I am not joking) and the recruitment of “true believers” to the Border Force.
How long before the Tories start screaming for that too?
They still have a parliamentary majority, under their philosophy they can pass any law they want. Any law at all, that is why we should really be worried about this Brexit inspired “sovereignty” and what the Tory right want to do with it.
Asylum seekers are just the excuse.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.

This was the animus behind the Vote Leave campaign from the beginning, the Freeports & SEZs are the stepping stones to some sort of Libertarian dystopia. The race is on between the cult pushing this agenda & the clock running on the next GE which they can’t avoid. Scary times
