Try to remember
I woke up this morning to hear and read about how shale gas is the future. How it can solve the energy crisis and bring down prices.
While producing vast amounts of shale gas would make the UK less dependent on foreign sources of energy, it will not and cannot solve this or any other spike in prices.
Just try to remember North Sea oil. For 20 years the UK produced so much it was an oil exporting nation. Was petrol at the pump cheaper, were household energy bills lower as a result? No, of course they weren’t the oil and gas was sold at global market prices.
Unless those energy experts, who are using this crisis to re-ignite their campaign for shale, are willing to say that they will give the stuff away at well below market prices then their argument falls flat.
Remember they want to pump shale gas to make a profit, not to subsidise your energy bill.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
