Too little, too late
Earlier this week Make UK warned that British businesses are moving production to the continent, not because energy prices are necessarily lower there but because the price is guaranteed by government for years.
In the UK energy support for business runs out, in most cases, once winter is over. Now it seems Jeremy Hunt is looking again at this and thinking of offering support for all industry but at a lower level.
Funnily enough I was talking this week to an eminent economist who pointed out the complete lack of consistency, planning and policy by government was having a terrible effect on the economy.
How do you plan or invest when the government is just issuing a series of unconnected knee jerk reactions and driving down idealogical cul-de-sacs?
You don’t.
This is not a government, this is muddling through by a bunch of desperate, incompetent, third rate, nobodies, who just hope something will turn up to save them.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
