A full five weeks after Brexit and it is beginning to dawn on the Government that there seem to be an awful lot of things that it forgot to do. From allowing orchestras, bands and musicians to tour easily, getting UK shellfish to market, training enough customs agents, telling firms they have to pay VAT and making sure the UK could still be used as a distribution centre for the whole of the EU.
These and many other things could and should have been part of the negotiations but it seems that they weren’t. It is a bit early to go back to the EU and ask for a re-write of the whole deal , but not apparently too early to ask for a longer transition period and a weakening of the rules for the UK.
Having wasted 4 years and a huge amount of money on negotiating the deal you might think the EU would be less than receptive to these requests, after all it was perfectly willing to allow the UK to stay in the single market, which would have solved nearly all of these issues, an offer the UK turned down from the start. But then it knows something that the UK government has been in denial about since before the. referendum. We are neighbours and there will have to be a near permanent series of talks, summits, and committee meetings to keep the relationship running smoothly. Brexit is not just an event it is the new relationship and it is starting as it is likely to continue, with the UK asking for more.

In the immortal words of Derek Trotter, "You could do a lot worse than that." But it is clear that Sir Elton John hasnt quite said Goodbye yellow brick Road for the umpteenth time yet. I thought Elton had retired, bless him.
It is also clear fresh food has met a wall of bureaucracy. I don't think the civil servants understood the numbers of forms being demanded after next to nothing. Necessary no! ANNOYING - you bet that was the plan!
Lorrys going into Northern Ireland having to wash mud off their wheels before entering? It has been fine for all those years when we were in the EU but now Northern Ireland is under new management it is sybollic.
The European Parliament has decided it doesn't like the deal and needs more time to read it and has asked as such. Having worked for EU companies what they mean by a particular wording & what we interpreted they meant can be 2 separate things but it tends to get sorted. Governments well who knows!
