The way ahead
There are many reasons to feel sorry for Sir Kier and a lot of other Western political leaders, I mean how do you cope with the Orange Ape?
You cannot exactly tell him to eff off, no matter how much you might want to and how much he deserves it; you cannot really hope to control him and you cannot educate him, because he thinks he knows more than everybody on everything.
There is also a very limited amount you can do to deter him, the idea that NATO would declare war on America if it invaded Greenland is risible. While just closing your eyes and hoping that in 3 years time everything will return to normal is looking increasingly unrealistic.
The UK is in a particularly invidious position in that its nuclear deterrent is basically rented from the USA and that deal could be terminated at any moment. Trying to persuade the French to let us have their technology would be difficult, massively expensive and possibly take years to work.
But looking on the bright side the increasingly convoluted attempts by the Tories and Reform to claim that they still love America, the Republicans and Trump is just not going to work. Claiming they want ICE and DOGE in the UK, or American style health insurance, or to kidnap third world dictators or to distance us even further from the EU is increasingly untenable. Let alone the pathetic ramblings of Jacob Rees Mogg et al claiming Trump is some sort of new age paladin we should all support, which is just another piece of evidence about their complete disconnect from the real world.
We know who are friends really are more clearly every day, we can see where our future lies, where true security is and even how to get there.
The real worry is, how much worse does Trump have to get before we our leaders realise they have to face the new reality? I sense Starmer is already there, Badenoch and Farage are still off with the fairies.

Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.

Rock and hard place for KS I agree - sadly, for us as a nation, he appears to be devoid of the character required to steer the UK through the upcoming era of world politics (that which mirrors a century ago), accepting that he and his party were the least worst of the political options during the last election, the Tories having made such a monumental f'up of the last decade plus and in doing so destroyed themselves as a party.
I fear that for my remaining years, and the future years of my family, all we're going to be doing as a nation is the equivalent of playing in the sand-pit while the neanderthals stomp around destroying the cultures and civilisations that we have developed during the 19th and 20th centuries whilst painting them gold as a compensatory gesture.
Jeez - what a time to start Dry January!
