The view from Scotland
I happen to be north of the border at the moment and the coverage of the SNP’s woes is even more complete here than it is in the rest of the UK.
One gets a real sense that the tide has turned, no party can stay in power for so long without building up a series of mistakes and cock ups. The latest is having to try to borrow landing craft from the Army to fill in for broken down ferries in the Highlands and Islands.
But it is the implosion of the SNP that is more important. Whoever thought that having a married couple as head of the party and chief executive of the party was a good idea has been proved very wrong indeed. The potential conflict of interests alone is as long as your arm, is anyone seriously going to complain to the party leader about the party finances? Really?
This is good news for Labour who, if this mess continues, might hope to pick up some of the many Scottish seats at Westminster that they have lost over the years.
But more importantly the implosion of the SNP, which never quite managed to get a sustained majority for independence, must mean the prospect of splitting GB is fast diminishing.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
