The true cost of Brexit revealed
“It was always inevitable if you change the exact nature of your trading relationship with the EU, that was always going to have an impact on trade flows,”
Well there you have it, apparently it was obvious that Brexit would hurt the UK’s trade, the Chancellor said as such before the Treasury Select Committee yesterday.
Funnily enough, when remainers said this it was Project Fear, a lie and economic nonsense. Because, “they need us more than we need them” and “we have them over a barrel” and “we will get an even better deal than the one we already have”.
Apparently the leave supporting Chancellor knew then that wasn’t true because:
“It was always inevitable if you change the exact nature of your trading relationship with the EU, that was always going to have an impact on trade flows,”
The truth is everyone knew it was a lie, some media spread it knowingly, others in a false sense of balance but they all knew it was a lie.
That was how leave won. They gamed a system where calling people out for lying wasn’t done, because politicians never lied outright.
In the process they destroyed that system. One of the biggest costs of Brexit is not the loss of trade, it is the freedom to lie.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
