One of Neil Kinnock’s best moments was when he took on the Militant Tendency’s control of Liverpool in a speech which started out detailing their mad policies, their lies, their deviance of facts and the law, and ended with them hiring taxis to drive around Merseyside to fire workers.
Now we hear that our PM is threatening to leave the ECHR if it blocks flights to Rwanda, because that is apparently a matter of “sovereignty”. It is, of course, nothing of the sort.
But this is what happens when you launch a mad policy to impress the racists and the gammons, lie about it, defy the facts and the law and then double down on your mad idea in the face of all the evidence.
We founded the ECHR, the only Europeans who are not members are Belarus and Russia, where torture and assassination are government policy and invading neighbours habit forming.
But sure that is the club we want to join, rather than the current one of 46 law abiding democracies which respect human rights.

Our reputation in the world is already on the skids. Leaving the ECHR will help enormously to that end :-(
Let's hope the dog whistling will soon stop!
