The rock and the marbles
There is apparently a deal about to be done on Gibraltar, the citizens of the Rock voted overwhelmingly to stay in the EU and have been left in limbo ever since.
It has taken the arrival of the Remainer Lord Cameron to try to negotiate a deal, just one of the many post Brexit snags and problems that need fixing and which an even vaguely competent UK foreign policy would have fixed long ago.
Talking of being vaguely competent, the PM snubbed Greece and its government and its PM by pulling out of a planned meeting because he thought Greece might ask for the Elgin Marbles back.
Petty, damaging, insulting, crass and undiplomatic -all in one move. The PM then offered Greece’s PM a meeting with the UK’s deputy PM, which is just plain rude.
It looks like Mr. Sunak has had a hissy fit, and the Greeks will just tell everyone else in the EU that the UK is not to be taken seriously. David Cameron must be delighted, all that common sense and compromise threatened by a PM who can’t keep his toys on his pram.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
