The rich are different....
“The rich are different from us”
“Yes, they have more money”
This is only partly true in the UK at least, the rich also dominate the media and politics to an amazing extent and therefore the narrative of national life is written to benefit them and so are government policies.
In an excellent piece of analysis in the FT yesterday it was revealed that although rich people in the UK do well by international comparison, the poor and even middle income earners do not.
At current rates we will soon be asking Slovenian and Polish workers to take a pay cut to come to work in the UK. They will soon be “considerably wealthier than you”- to coin a phrase.
Yet the government is dead set against ANY redistribution and is even planning to make things worse by giving huge handouts to the wealthy and more tax cuts to them than to the poorest.
In most other countries this would be unbelievable, in the UK it is government policy.
Making the poor poorer, by stuffing the wallets of the rich, doesn’t sound as good as trickle down economics.
But it is more honest.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
