The Prawn cocktail offensive.....
If anyone wants to buy The New European this week, they will find my long article on the new barriers to trade that the government has thrown in the way of British business.
The queues are already forming in Kent as the new red tape starts to strangle imports into the UK, on top of the hit to exports that the UK has already suffered.
All of this was totally predictable, in fact it was inevitable.
British industry is begging for further delays to even more form filling that is on its way later this year. The government is not listening and hasn’t listened to anyone but the Brexit ultras for years.
Industry forums are just frozen out if they speak truth to power. This is madness but such are the times we live in.
The opportunities for other parties are however huge. Labour doesn’t need a prawn cocktail offensive to win over the grudging support of executives. It can offer to slash tens of billions of pounds of red tape a year, tens of billions that the Conservative party has forced on its so called friends and supporters.
A prawn cocktail flavoured packet of crisps would be enough.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
