The painful state we are in
The Tories witter on about how we are all much better off under them and then the Institute for fiscal Studies comes along and bursts their balloon of lies.
The IFS simply points out that:
The past 15 years have been the worst for income growth in 50 years.
Median incomes rose by just 6% between 2009/10 and 2022/23, 24% lower than expected. We would all be far wealthier if growth and wage growth had continued at pre-Tory rates.
That UK incomes growth of 6% compares with 12% in the USA and 16% in Germany.
Simples.
We have been failed for the last 14 years, we have fallen behind our competitors and we are increasingly the poor man of Europe.
Austerity, Brexit, Trussenomics, you name it they cocked it up; any one would have been bad enough but together they have been a disaster.
The damage they have done is all around us and they cannot see it because they are incapable of seeing it.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
