The national/self interest....
The jockeying for position ahead of any possible leadership election is cynical shameless and does nothing for the country’s best interests. Nothing new there you might think but this bunch are taking it to a new level.
Letting it be known that the Minister who wrote a book on curtailing Civil Service spending took a whole passenger jet to Australia and back was just normal political manoeuvring. The Foreign Office video in Northern Ireland and the Protocol was, on the other hand, shameless internal Tory party propoganda paid for by the taxpayer and should be a sacking offence.
Even worse, claiming that the Chancellor is blocking the use of Article 16 is an attempt to smear Rishi Sunak with the outrageous claim that he is acting in the national interest.
Lord Frost writing that all No. 10 needs is a clear out of the “woke crowd” and “neo-socialists”, is pandering to the loons who think that just a few more far right Civil Servants is all that is need to get Brexit past the “blob”.
What it all shows is a party still obsessed with Brexit, and supposedly serious politicians willing to pander to its core base of swivel eyed loons and conspiracy theorists.
Even worse, they are willing and able to take the country with them if that is the price of climbing the greasy pole.
That is something we have never seen in this country and it is very dangerous.
Article 16 is now a weapon to be used by whoever wants to be PM the most.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
