The march goes on.
Another day another stupid immigration policy.
Regular readers will know I am a big fan of The March of Folly by Barbara Tuchman, which basically uses examples from history to explain why some governments and leaders can never back down from disastrous decisions until it is far too late.
Which brings us to Brexit. We now have a government so desperate to find an upside to Brexit, any upside, that it willing to do almost anything to bring down immigration numbers.
Ministers are now considering visa restrictions for international students’ dependants and cuts to their post-study work visas, both of which would discourage overseas students. It is not as if there aren’t other countries they can go to
Since many UK universities are totally dependent on foreign students for their funding this is a disastrous policy.
Stupid, short sighted, damaging, cynical, and counter productive.
All because the first decision, to leave the EU, has nothing but downside and this bunch can never admit it.
I know Labour want to kill Brexit as an election issue, for fear of scaring off red wall voters but this is madness and someone has to say so.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
