The Lord and the Lady....
The fact that Lord Agnew has resigned on principle, politely and for a good cause, the missing billions that no one is bothering to find, is good news.
Not so good is the fact that the government could easily employ 500 accountants, offer them 10% of all the money they find and see the cash flow back into its bank account, but can’t be bothered.
They chase benefits cheats and confused pensioners through the courts for pence but not people who took one look at a world wide pandemic, a massive death toll, a struggling NHS and a tanking economy and decided to steal taxpayers money on a huge scale.
On the up side the wonderful Jack Munroe (now there is someone who should be in the Lords) by simply pointing out that inflation is much higher for the poor seems to have nudged the ONS into restarting its break down of inflation rates by pay band.
It should shame ministers who continually cut benefits and act like Victorian mill owners starving workers back to work on worse terms, into actually paying enough to heat and feed people. But it won’t.
It wouldn’t be much to ask when you have just allowed £4.3 billion to be stolen from under your nose but obviously its too much to ask from this government.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
