The King's speech and North Sea oil.
Poor King Charles, despite all his green crrdentials, is going to have to read out a speech at the opening of parliament announcing that his government wants to pump more North Sea oil.
The government will not only force the Head of State to announce that but will probably have him read out a justification, that this will bring down fuel prices and ensure security of supply. Both will be lies.
North Sea oil production is in such long term and irreversible decline that the UK will be increasingly dependent on imports no matter how many new wells it drills. It will make not a jot of difference to energy security.
Also, North Sea oil is sold on the international market at international prices. It always has been, otherwise we would all remember the free petrol we were given in the 80s and 90s.
So it will not changes prices at all.
All King Charles’ speech will achieve will be to show the Tory party will do anything to stay in power. Burn the planet’s future, destroy Britain’s green credentials and leadership, drive good people to despair.
All for a few votes.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
