We now know what the political legacy of Boris Johnson will be, cakeism.
Both Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss are misleading their voters and the country about many issues, but Northern Ireland is the most serious.
Mr. Sunak at the hustings on Leeds said there didn’t need to be a border in Northern Ireland, either between the UK and NI or NI and the Republic. Not only that but the Northern Ireland Protocol Bill would make that a reality and solve the problem.
They both know that the Bill that Liz Truss is pushing through Parliament will do no such thing, both know it will start a massive row with the EU and both apparently think that they can blame the EU for it not working and attack the patriotism of anyone who points out it is all their fault.
That is the legacy that Mr Johnson has left us, not the lying, although that is bad enough, but the totally cynical willingness to lie, deceive, lie some more, wrap yourself in the flag, blame someone else and then move on leaving a car crash behind you.
The lie is just the method, the aim is totally shameless cakeism. Tell everybody what they want to hear and damn the consequences. Then saunter off whistling as if it had nothing to do with you.
The king is dead, long live the king.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
"...the totally cynical willingness to lie, deceive, lie some more, wrap yourself in the flag, blame someone else and then move on leaving a car crash behind you."
Isn't that exactly how Brexit was sold?
