The hole we are in
Chris Patten, no less, told BBC’s Question Time just what a hole we are in. How we are slipping down international league tables for wealth and prosperity. How you cannot have tax cuts, and spend what you need to and how Brexit is to blame.
It is welcome but what we really need is the same honesty from the current cabinet and the shadow cabinet. Not only that but we desperately need serious media outlets to lead on this story again and again.
This morning BBC Radio’s flagship news programme Today, is leading on an interview with Phillip Schofield. To be fair they had an interview with Larry Summers yesterday but then I listened for an hour and half and they had nothing on the scandal of the government refusing to hand over information to the Covid enquiry, even when it was the lead on the news bulletins.
For those who don’t know the bulletins, the news on the hour, are not written by the Today programme but by the newsroom.
At least the newsroom knows a story when it sees one but the Today programme needs to get serious, because things are very serious indeed. .
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
