The hidden paw...
Apparently the PM has a secret exit at the back of No. 10, which he can use to sneak out without his officials or anyone else knowing he has gone. Why the current PM should feel the need to sneak out from time to time is beyond me, he should have lots of work to keep him at his desk.
The asylum seekers crossing the Channel for a start, have it seems, been encouraged by Brexit. Leaving the EU makes it more difficult to send them back, not easier. Likewise gaining French cooperation doesn’t seem quite so simple these days. Surely the PM is working night and day on this one?
Then there are all those rules and regulations, border checks and data laws that will be introduced in the next few months, all need massive amounts of preparation, training and infrastructure. All will make trade and cooperation with the EU more difficult not easier. Hours of work there as well.
And, of course, there is the economy. Which seems to be slowing down to a growth rate of 1.3% or so. Which is what was predicted; if Brexit hits growth by 6% or so over 10 years then you lose just over 0.5% of growth a year.
Taking your already very poor post Credit Crunch growth rate of around 1.8% down to 1.3%.
It’s far too early to say that the latest figures are caused by Brexit rather than the completely incompetent handling of covid, but it is what all the experts expect to happen and to keep on happening.
Surely the PM is at his desk as we speak, devising plans to revive the UK’s sluggish performance?
Oh, no sorry, he’s popped out.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
