Evidence that Robert Jenrick is not fit to lead a Boy Scout troop let alone the Tory party emerges by the day. Over the weekend it was an article in the Mail in which he proclaimed his pride in British history and its Empire.
How grateful our former colonies must be he wrote, having inherited our system of law and traditions. They should really thank us for abolishing slavery, and Sir Kier should get off his knees and stop listening to those pesky foreigners, you know the ones we used to rule because they weren’t white and therefore couldn’t govern themselves..
This is yet another of his attempts to appear to the right of Nigel Farage, a place where there is no space. He even blames the re-writing of our glorious past on woke, Marxist, university lecturers and their knit-your-own-meusli habits which are corrupting our youth.
But the truth is that a better way of destroying our relationship with what is left of the Commonwealth it is hard to image. Does he not know that these countries all won their independence from the UK at the earliest opportunity? That many of them did so at the point of a gun and many others would have done so if we had not withdrawn at the earliest opportunity. Does he not know that we murdered, tortured and suppressed people around the world and destroyed their local economies to boost our own?
Just look at India, which did not bother attending the latest Commonwealth shindig. The partition of India cost millions of lives and was a complete scandal and a shameful scar on our reputation. Or the Amritsar massacre, has he not heard of that?
Mr. Jenrick might want to read The anarchy by William Dalrymple (not a commie academic) about how we took over India, then the world’s richest country and robbed it blind, created famines and taxed its industry to death so we could sell them our exports.
In India the Indian Mutiny is now taught in schools as The First War of Independence. Pretending that none of this happened, or is happening is not blind ignorance, it is a deliberately disastrous policy, designed purely to win the votes of a few gammons.
Thanks to his party we have totally destroyed our relationship with Europe, the US might well fall into the hands of an isolationist facist (who Mr. Jenrick says he would vote for), he wants to leave the ECHR which would destroy our relationship with everyone but Russia and Belarus and now he is insulting the Commonwealth.
How many friends does he think we have? Because he and his party are turning us into the Millwall of world politics.
No one likes us but we don’t care, is not a policy that any sane person would ever follow. But the Tories seem very happy with it.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
Don`t suppose he`s read Sathnam Sanghera`s brilliant books has he? More to the point if he did he`d probably still not get it. Lost cause.
