The diplomatic bag
To: PM, FM, relevant Department Heads of Business, Internal Affairs and Treasury.
From: London Embassy
URGENT AND CONFIDENTIAL
I have the honour to report on the latest attempts by the British government to save the PM’s job.
This has involved the PM lying to Parliament again and senior ministers claiming that the head of government breaking his own covid lock down laws was similar to him receiving a parking fine.
Apparently the vast majority of decent British citizens who obeyed the daily exhortations (by the PM) to follow the law to the letter were idiots.
The PM’s party will doubtless support him with their votes and protect him from a proper enquiry. The right wing press will do the same.
I can only conclude that this shameless display, coming on top of attempts by this government to suppress voter turn out, break domestic and international law, renege on Treaties, transport asylum seekers and lie to the head of state, means that this government, nor its ministers, nor its representatives can be trusted.
All future negotiations with this government should take place with this as the principle consideration.
I regret to have to tell you that neither their word nor their signature are worth having.
In short, as the old saying our grandmothers’ taught us goes “wear gloves, hold your nose and count your fingers after shaking hands.”
I have the honour, Ladies and Gentlemen, to remain your obedient servant.
His excellency Ambassador to the Court of St. James.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
