The brick in the face
As Jacob Rees-Mogg takes up his new job a report will land on his desk pointing out the scale of the task ahead. He is supposed to be finding the opportunities of Brexit, but the report from the Public Accounts Committee declares in clear, stark terms the truth "the only detectable impact so far is increased costs, paperwork and border delays." Which is likely to get worse.
Which just about says it all, the great leap forward into a low regulation, lower cost, high tech economy is a flop.
Not a brilliant, game changing, record breaking and winning Fosbury Flop.
More of a rake in the face and a fall backwards off the cliff, followed by a house brick in the face, Roadrunner, kind of flop.
For the rest of the world this is a never ending comedy routine that never fails to delight.
The UK is, however, stoically waiting for the second brick.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
