Talking to the Taliban
Western governments are spinning the line that the Taliban has changed, it’s a softer, cuddlier Taliban. Apparently warm words and international criticism will force them to be nice and allow their defeated enemies to negotiate a way out for the friends and allies the West abandoned.
This is so unrealistic as to be fantasy. The Taliban has won and the West has no power or influence over them at all. Government’s which failed totally to support Afghanistan, its government or its allies, are now spinning lies about having the power and influence to save them.
They don’t.
The media must know this, but the story moves on, there are few pictures or information available. The government announces funding, new schemes that can’t work, talks which will achieve nothing and the circus moves on.
Meanwhile thousands of Afghans know what is coming and no one is lifting a hand to help, nor can they. It is too late.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
