As a hardened hack of decades experience it takes quite a lot to shock me but the latest report on the state of school buildings in the UK managed it easily.
Apparently it is “very likely” that school buildings will collapse, as post war constructed buildings reach the end of their life.
Just think about that for a moment, state schools are in danger of collapse because they have not been maintained or replaced in the last 75 years.
What will the government say if a building collapses and kills children?
Sorry we are only the 5th richest country in the world? We can’t be expected to build safe schools, they cost too much? It is all Labour’s fault? The war on woke takes first place? Cutting taxes is more important?
It is easy to get used to the callous indifference of the government, but that makes it easier for them to get away with it.
We should be ashamed, of ourselves.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.

Was Googling to get more of this report and got this story from 2021 of a primary school roof collapsing in Dulwich.
