I was going to wait a bit longer before commenting again on the UK/France fishing row. But the fact that government in the UK is deliberately ramping up the argument even though it must by now know the letter was mistranslated is very telling.
So too is the fact that the Foreign Secretary is “threatening” to retaliate against French actions. How she can do this legally and without damaging the UK more than France it is hard to see.
Meanwhile the US President has concluded a deal with the EU to end the trade war over steel started by his predecessor but the UK is not included, yet.
Left on the sidelines the UK will doubtless catch up soon, so long as Mr Biden doesn’t decide to use the steel tariffs as a warning to the UK about abiding by the Northern Ireland Protocol.
It’s almost as if no one trusts the UK.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
